Greetings, My name is Blair Peterson and I am the Secondary Principal here at The International School of Tanganyika. I love being part of this learning community. An inclusive community that welcomes a diverse group of learners. Along with my formal role and duties, I am a wannabe designer and novice ally and advocate for autistic individuals. Personally, I love mountain biking the dirt roads of Goba hills and kayaking off the coast of Masaki.

My name is Gervaz Lushaju, I am among other things a photographer, currently working at the International School Tanganyika. I am particularly curious about all the ways we use to form an image of ourselves internally as well as how we believe we are perceived by the outside world. As part of my TedX talk I hope to explore the role that photography and the increased accessibility of cameras has affected our self perception and perhaps attempt to inspire a little introspection in the people we are and the way we want to be seen.

OUR TEDx EVENTS 2023

TEDxYouth@Upanga

TEDxYouth@Upanga is an independently organised TEDxYouth event that will take place for the fourth time in Upanga, Dar es Salaam on April 1, 2023.

The last few years have certainly brought to our attention that we could all pause to reflect about what we believe we know about ourselves, our lives, our society and the world at large. With the global pandemic and a range of other political, economic and environmental issues, we are invite to try and unlearn our old ways of living, thinking and being and redefine what is known

TEDx YOUTH

At the TEDx event, participants experience live TED talks, pre-recorded TED talks, and performances by students and local artists

TEDx, x = independently organised event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

TEDxYouth

TED upholds the ideal of sharing ideas that are worth spreading. That is why they created the program ‘TEDx’. TEDx is a program of local events organized independently of TED, but within TED rules and guidelines. Our event is called TEDxYouth@Upanga, with the ‘x’ signifying that is independently organized and the ‘Youth’ signifying the audience will be Tanzanian youth. At the coming events, we will hear from live speakers and online TED Talks that will provoke debate within the audience. Since the program’s inception in 2009, there have been over 10 000 events and 50 000 talks given across the world. We count ourselves lucky to have joined such an elite group.
